Drupal vs SquareSpace - What Drupal Longs to be?

So Leo Laporte (http://leoville.com/) has become a fanboy of sorts of Squarepace (http://www.squarespace.com/), they are one of his big sponsors now and many of his colleagues have jumped ship from platforms such as wordpress over to Squarespace.

So what is Squarespace? Basically it is a web-based content management website authoring platform that includes hosting; in short it's an easy way to make pretty and functional websites.

Need some quick CSS cleanup work

I'm working with some students on a final class project and need to hire someone to help with basic CSS/theme layouts for a few panel pages we have.

The two pages that need help are:
http://www.ibiblio.org/newsdesk/apples/sp09/final_homepage
and
http://www.ibiblio.org/newsdesk/apples/sp09/community

As you can see, we just need some quick help spacing columns, and we have a budget to hire a quick helper.

We are using the NewsFlash theme by RupalTheme (a theme common to several NC political blogs)

Need Help-Unresponsive Script

When we try to deselect menu items, the boxes won't uncheck after you hit save and this error pops up:

Unresponsive Script

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. you can stop the script now, or you cna continue to see if the script will complete. Script:
http://mysite.com/misc/jquery.js?z:13

And a checkbox to either continue or stop the script.

We got this earlier with moving blocks but it seems to have resolved.

We're stuck now so immediate help would be greatly appreciated!

Is Drupal THAT hard? - The "Drupal Learning Curve" is a Myth!

drupal-book-oreilly-using-drupal.jpg

So Drupal is notorious for its "learning curve" and the mind-bending endeavor that is 'learning Drupal.'

But is it really THAT hard?

Firstly, this question is difficult to evaluate because so many different kinds of people come to Drupal from so many different levels and types of experience.

You have hardcore experienced PHP developers adopting Drupal for the first time, novices that are deciding to move from Wordpress, complete noobs who heard the word Drupal and became psychotically obsessed with it.

Permissions problem

On my website , I have given the authorized user profile just basic rights such as posting to a forum. However, a simple authorized user has the ability to edit anyone's posts. I went back in to look at permissions and they all look correct. Places I've looked:
User Management - Permissions
Content Management - Content Type - Edit Forum Topic

Any clues are appreciated.

Testing Facebook Connect Module on Drupal North Carolina

Hi All I decided to give the facebook connect module an install on Drupal North Carolina.

Not quite sure how it will fly with those already registered and who have facebook accounts, you may be able to find and add the application on your face book page using this link.

Then you SHOULD be able to navigate to this website and not have to log in. Though it may try to force you to create a new account. If it does let me know. And you should just be able to refresh the page and be logged in.

Give it try. We'll help iron out the kinks.

Facebook Connect and the Facebook Connect module for Drupal - A Case Overview

In addition to Geeks and God, another one of my favorite podcasts is Leo Laporte's Tech Guy podcast and Leo's net@night podcast with with Amber McArthur. In a recent episode Facebook connect came up.

Great Drupal Podcast - Geeks and God

logo copy.PNG

These guys do Drupal web development for churches and do a really informative and interesting podcast about every other week.

This podcast is a case study specifically about how they rebuilt (or at the time, were rebuilding) their own website in Drupal 6.x.

I really enjoy listening to these guys. Unlike a lot of podcasts I TRY to listen to which seem to be a rambley back-slapping yammering get together of friends with the podcast as an afterthought, these guys actually prepare which makes for an entertaining and efficient podcast and use of time.

Acquia/drupal installation complete

1-DrBrad2DBadmin01.jpg

So I was successful at doing a reinstall of the Acquia package of Drupal on the Godaddy server. It wasn't too ugly an affair but it took a good hour and I had messed it up a time or 2 before, so I had some vague recollections of what to do when things went south. I considered doing a Mamp install on a Mac to use as development ground but I like living on the edge so on with the live show.......
