Folks,

OK, let's try to put some general swing into this forum:

Since I'm a Drupal novice = is there something like a Drupal bible, a book that everybody should read when getting started?

For those who are not familiar with this concept: I'm talking about something made out of paper! I know, old fashioned ;-)

Thanks!

O'Reilly's Using Drupal

Julia had a copy at the last meeting. I bought it and it looks great. I'm a slow reader, but what I've read so far is very helpful and very well written.

Yep. Using Drupal (O'Reilly)

I have not read it either but did take a look at the last Meetup) and it seems to be at the right level for beginners yet with nice tips and tricks for the moderately fluent Drupaler. So probably as close to a bible as there is.

The best thing is that it is relatively fresh, unlike the real bible that seems to have shunned revision.

Obviously one of the challenges of actual books is that Drupal changes so rapidly (especially modules their functionality and availability) that things get stale pretty fast.

Also it is written by the Lullabot (http://lullabot.com) guys (and gals), who are neck-deep in Drupal and apparently do a good job of teaching and training.

I still want to plug this episode of Geeks and God (http://drupalnorthcarolina.org/content/future-proofing-your-drupal-websi...) because it touches on this Drupal fluidity issue. As you learn more about modules and 'Drupal Growth Theory' this episode is good to return to to pick up on something you might have missed or not understood or not realized you didn't understand the first time you listened to it.

As for print books, the O'Reilly book is probably the way to go.

Books

The Pro Drupal Development is good from a developer perspective. Although it sounds super-geeky, I would also recommend reading through the API at api.drupal.org.
